Introducing Squish Enterprise license model

Remember when microcontrollers (MCUs) were simpler? Back then, basic testing or even no testing at all might have sufficed. But the landscape has drastically changed. Today’s MCUs power everything from smart appliances to industrial systems, featuring increasingly complex graphical user interfaces (GUIs).

With this growing complexity comes the need for rigorous GUI testing. Recognizing this, the Squish development team has expanded its testing capabilities to support Qt Ultralite GUIs on MCUs, ensuring reliability even in resource-constrained environments.

Introducing the Squish Enterprise License

To address the growing demand for GUI test automation in embedded environments, we are excited to introduce Squish Enterprise, a new licensing option that includes support for Qt for MCU.

Previously, Squish licensing was structured as follows:

  • Standard Squish License
  • Cross Compilation Add-On

With Squish Enterprise, we’re streamlining access to comprehensive testing across various platforms and devices, eliminating the need for separate add-ons. By the end of 2025, the Cross Compilation Add-on will be removed from Squish. The new Squish Enterprise License covers:

  • Embedded applications
  • Traditional desktop and mobile applications
  • Cross Compilation support
  • Qt for MCU (QUL-based applications)

By integrating Qt for MCU support within the Squish Enterprise License, we are making it easier than ever to automate GUI testing across a wide range of embedded devices.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Support for Embedded GUI Toolkits

The Squish team is committed to making automated GUI testing even more adaptable. Looking forward, we are actively working on extending our compatibility to other (embedded) GUI toolkits to further broaden our support for embedded UI testing on MCU systems.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to evolve Squish to meet the ever-changing demands of GUI testing on embedded systems!
