Community vs. Commercial License
Every person using Qt needs to comply with either Open Source License (GPL and LGPL) or Qt Commercial License. The main difference between the two lies in how the software can be used, modified, and distributed.
As per Open-Source terms and condition, Qt Community Edition allows users to copy, modify, and distribute the software without restriction, as long as they fully comply with all open-source terms and conditions.
Qt Commercial License users are not required to comply with Open-Source terms and conditions. For example, Commercial License users have full freedom to manage their own intellectual property (IP).
Commercial Licenses give access to a series of extra benefits that substantially help customers in their journey.
Commercial Benefits
- Standard or Extended Support
- Professional Services Support
- Customer Success
- Qt updates and maintenance for the entire term.*
- Access to exclusive Commercial-only features.
- Out-of-the-box integration with a wide variety of hardware and software platforms.
*Typically, Minor Releases are supported for one year from the date of the release, while LTS releases are supported for five years
