Qt Training at Digital Hollywood University: QML, UI Development, 3D Design, and Integration with C++ for Human-Machine Interfaces

Qt Group is collaborating with various universities in effort to train the next generation of Qt talent. We believe that, by working together with universities and educators, we can create meaningful learning experiences and connections for students pursuing successful careers in software development.

Most recently we collaborated with the Graduate School of Digital Hollywood University in Japan to provide training for the development of advanced embedded human-machine interfaces (HMI), including 3D. The training took place over two days in June 2024 and included the basics of QML, UI development, 3D design details, and integration with C++. The participating students were able to learn the basics of developing HMIs for automobiles and other vehicles using the development framework provided by Qt Group.

This sort of training is needed as in recent years, the importance and demand for HMI development has been increasing in various industries, including the automotive industry, as the widespread use of smartphones has led to the need for rich HMIs.

Project Professor Masatsugu Hashimoto from the Graduate School of Digital Content Studies at Digital Hollywood University valued the collaboration. He emphasized the practical value of the training for students:

“The Visual Media Intelligence Lab at the Graduate School of Digital Hollywood University works on research into interfaces for cars in the age of automated and unmanned driving. By taking training courses with the support of Qt Group, which has been adopted for car interfaces, our goal is for our graduate students to acquire practical UI implementation skills that will be immediately useful in the workplace."

Also, the students were happy with the training packed with new information. Additionally, they were inspired, saying:

“I was able to absorb so much knowledge that I could not believe it was only for two days. I am going to study it so that I can incorporate it into my future research.”

“I liked that the code is changed as I changed the design in the no-code work in the design mode.”

Qt Group offers free educational licenses for students and educators in educational institutions for learning purposes. We will continue to work with educational institutions to train the next generation of software developers.
