Qt 4.7 for Maemo 5 released

We're happy to announce that Qt 4.7 was released with the latest update (PR 1.3) for the N900. This makes the N900 the first device to ship with Qt 4.7, and most notably, Qt Quick. In addition, we're also happy that Qt Mobility 1.0.2 comes pre-installed. We've created a small teaser video demoing Qt Mobility and Qt Quick on the N900:

Some useful Qt for Maemo 5 links:

As always, thanks to all Nokia internals and externals, our community for providing valuable feedback and everyone else who made this release possible :)

You guys need a better cam for recording this stuff. :) Someone with wooden eyes will claim that the Qt is slow when we know that that isn't the case! ;)

@Chris - you're right, it does look better in on the actual device. I had to use a different cam this time, which doesn't have a high frame capture rate. The idea of the video was to get you hooked to try it out yourself, though ;)

i'll just quote:
"I found a bug the same day I installed the testing image (QTextBrowser black on black)....http://oi54.tinypic.com/11s2f0j.jpg"

@ZogG: Can't reproduce on my image, maybe the user installed a broken theme? Anyway, please use the bug tracker (bugreports.qt.nokia.com) to report bugs, and also tell others to use it instead of posting pictures all over the web :)

The landing page shows a link for Qt 4.6.2 for Maemo 5 couldn't find anywhere a Qt 4.7.0 SDK for Maemo. Am I missing something?

@Catalin - just get Qt Creator, it was just updated with the latest MADDE tool chain that allows building Qt 4.7.0 for Maemo 5 apps.

Also on a side note, madde including PR1.3 support has just been pushed as an update to the Nokia Qt SDK. So you should see the update by now.

@Harald - Do you know if there is planned also an update for the scratchbox based Nokia Maemo 5 SDK to include Qt 4.7.0? It has the advantage of the emulator.

@Catalin - the SDK is already updated, do a "fakeroot apt-get update" and a "fakeroot apt-get upgrade" to obtain Qt 4.7

Is there a way I can just get the sysroot? I use a custom version of madde and a snapshot of Qt Creator.

Thanks, Tom.

People in UK seems to be left out , no update notification until now and there is no UK image to flash.

@Asim, this isn't really the appropriate place to ask about that. I just downloaded and flashed the global image from tablets-dev.nokia.com We were the first last time, so maybe they're just trying to keep things fair ;)

Are the QtMobility related QML modules included in 1.3? I cannot play any of the QML examples in qmlviewer, it always complains about module this or that not installed.

For the life of me I also can't find a Nokia SDK 4.7.x for Maemo.
I have downloaded various different QT Creators (including 2.1 beta), the latest Nokia SDK 1.0.1, etc. and at most they include, or offer to install, the Maemo 4.6.2 SDK.

I'm trying to install on 64-bit Linux, if that makes any difference.

Would appreciate a precise link or set of instructions -somewhere- to download & install a 4.7 SDK for Maemo.

Thanks!

I just tried the "Update Nokia Qt SDK" feature on my system, and the Qt 4.7 upgrade was shown as being available. However as it was 400MB I will have to wait until I have a DSL Internet connection; it's not fun to download over 3G :)

@Frustrated - just download the Nokia Qt SDK.

@Harald: That was my point - I did, and it -said- that it was going to (re)install 4.6.2.
Same thing with the SDK Maintenance/Update tools which were on my system.

As it turns out, canceling the install had ended up wiping out my SDK anyway (someone else has already posted this as a bug in the online installer) so I had to proceed with the install (and re-download the 400+MiB) anway. Turns out that despite -saying- it was going to install 4.6.2 again, in actual fact it installed 4.7.0.

Looks like some version number strings still need updating in the SDK installers / maintenance tools.
