Qt Mobility Tech Preview release party

Qt Development here in Brisbane, Australia has announced it's first tech preview release of the new Qt Mobility API's...

so we decided to have a party.

And, better still, we decided the party would be a billy kart (go-kart) race.

Here's some high-lights (or low-lights)

MobBilly Kart Race!

I may have missed a previous post but who cares that you had a party?

Love the QML (realtime?) tachometer! And the crash looked sort of painful.. Driver OK? :) Congrats with releasing the APIs!

Henrik: yes, realtime. and the driver is ok. road rash, cuts and bruises.. but he also ride motorbikes, so he's used to it!

That was my helmet..ouch! Oh well I wanted an excuse to get a better one anyway.
Lucky for him he was wearing it.

That was such good fun. Thanks for capturing some of the event Lorn.
I think there were several others with video cameras and I expect we will see the 'run the gauntlet' race and the 'fire extinguisher' footage at some point.

We usually celebrate a release with covering a cake with absynth and setting it on fire. This release was a little different..but no safer ;) heh heh. Work hard, play hard, have dangerous release party... excellent! If you like what you see and love Qt then check out our careers section on the website.

BTW..
The idea was to theme the carts around some of the new APIs that we developed as part of the Qt Mobility Project: For example we had entries for MultiMedia, Location, Bearer Management, etc. I think in the footage you can see each of the carts has a MOBILITY-xxx numberplate corresponding to the high level API requirement/concept.

Then we worked in small teams over the weekends to design and build the carts (and drink beer).

After the race we auctioned the carts and are giving the proceeds to a charity for people with a Mobility handicap.

If a billy cart is a go cart,
what is a billy goat?

Great video and cart. Look's like you all had some fun.

Is there any QT folk in Sydney? I've just started a venture with some developers overseas building with QT; however, I'd prefer local expertise. Seasoned QT folk seem to be very rare in Sydney?

@Lee.
We unfortunately do not have a Qt office in Sydney.
But we do have some very competant consultancy partners accross the globe. Im sure you would be able to contract services from several (and agree local delivery). I guess there may be a few less excellent Qt developers in Sydney as they are all moving to Brisbane to join us ;) Hopefully some local (to you) Qt devs will see your post and get in touch. Good luck mate :)
